Maui’s remarkable run ends at Little League World Series

With the tying run at third base, the Central East Maui Little League All-Stars fell just short in a 4-3 elimination game loss to Lake Mary, Fla., on Wednesday. They were one of the final eight teams in the tournament.

Central East Maui boys eliminated from Little League World Series

The Central East Maui All-Stars suffered a slim 4-3 loss to Lake Mary Little League of Florida, the Southeast region representative on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, ending their World Series run in Williamsport, Pa. Florida moves on to play Nevada after the Mountain team was defeated 5-2 against Texas earlier in the day. The winner of Florida vs. Nevada will advance to the US Championship game on Saturday against Texas.

The Sentry unveils ticket options for the 2025 event

Tournament officials from The Sentry today announced ticket options for the 2025 event when the first Signature Event of the PGA TOUR Regular Season returns to The Plantation Course from Jan. 2-5 (Thursday through Sunday). As part of the TOUR’s Opening Drive, The Sentry is the season-opening event for the 2025 FedExCup Regular Season as it returns to a calendar-year schedule for the second consecutive year.

The Central East Maui All-Stars defeated Pennsylvania 3-1 in their fourth game of the Little League World Series. The victory over Council Rock Newtown Little League, the Mid-Atlantic regional representative, puts the Maui boys within two games of the US Championships.

Maui Invitational returns to Lahaina Civic Center in November for first time since wildfires; bracket revealed

The 2024 Maui Invitational college basketball tournament celebrates its 40th anniversary by returning to the historic Lahaina Civic Center on Maui, Nov. 25-27, 2024. This marks the tournament’s return to Maui for the first time since the 2023 wildfires. Last year’s event was held on Oʻahu.

35 junior golfers compete in 2024 Kāʻanapali Junior Classic

The Hawaiʻi State Junior Golf Association | First Tee – Hawaiʻi (HSJGA|FTH) conducted the 2024 Kāʻanapali Junior Classic at Kāʻanapali Royal Golf Course this weekend on Aug. 17-18. This event was 36 holes. A total of 35 junior golfers from across the state teed up in the event. This tournament awards points for HSJGA | FTH Player of the Year and the season race to the coveted HSJGA | FTH Tour Championship on Maui in December (an event that is by invitation only to top finishers on the HSJGA|FTH Points List throughout the season).

The Central East Maui Little League majors have secured a spot in the Little League World Series after defeating Eastvale Little League of Southern California on Friday 2-1 for the West Region title. The 12U boys from Maui will play in the opening round of the Little League World Series in Game 2 on Wednesday at 9 a.m. (3 p.m. ET) against Salem, NH, the New England regional team.

36th annual Larry Libres Fishing & Diving Tournament

Glenn Sato, a 71-year-old retiree, won the Tako Division at the 36th annual Larry Libres Fishing & Diving Tournament, Saturday at Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului. Sato is the oldest tako champion in the 36-year history of the event. A total of 201 divers participated in the north shore event with 90 octopuses brought to the scale by 56 divers.

The Central East Maui Little League majors have made it to the West Region Tournament in San Bernardino, California, taking place Aug. 3-6 in San Bernardino, California. The boys will play in Game 1 against Land Park Pacific Little League of Northern California at 12 p.m. HST (3 p.m. PT) on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024 at Al Houghton Stadium.

The natural rivalry between King Kekaulike High School and Kamehameha Schools Maui on the gridiron has grown over the last three decades, but it has risen to new, unprecedented heights the last three years. “It’s built up for years now and I’ve seen this program grow from when I was small, but I think this year it is heavier than it’s ever been because we go back and forth with some of those guys,” said ‘A‘ali‘i Valle of King Kekaulike. “We’ve seen some of them at a couple clinics and we’re just, like, ‘No, we’re going to beat you guys this year.’ It’s our turn.”

Maui High School invites community to celebrate new STEM building dedication, Aug. 16

Maui High School is naming its new state-of-the-art building as the Harrison and Helen Miyahira STEM Center in recognition of the couple’s contributions to the school and community. Hawaiʻi becomes 12th state to make girls flag football a high school sport

The state Department of Education and the Hawaiʻi High School State Athletic Association have announced, for the first time in nearly 20 years, there will be a new sport for high school girls to compete in. Beginning in Spring 2025, girls flag football will be in public and private high schools across the state.
